With just over a week to spare, the first major events for the inaugural Alberta Day have been announced! The Alberta-born country artists Brett Kissel will be performing free, back-to-back concerts in Edmonton and Calgary, so here’s what to know.
As a recap, Alberta Day was originally announced back in July, as a way for residents to celebrate “our province’s unique spirit, culture and heritage”. The non-stat holiday will take place every year, on September 1st.

But, since that’s a weekday, the concerts will be taking place on Saturday, September 3rd instead. Brett Kissel will be playing in Prince’s Island Park in Calgary in the afternoon, before heading off to Edmonton for an evening show at the Legislature Grounds.
It’s probably for the best- we don’t know too many people who could sneak away from work on a Thursday at 2PM to go watch a concert. And if we do know them, we’re going to ask if they need any writers on staff. Nah, just kidding, we love working here.
Either way, we’re looking forward to a fantastic weekend ahead!
When: September 1st to 3rd, 2022
