The sun is high and so are our expectations for this summer! With everyone’s favourite season hot on our heels, we’re eager to explore the beautiful province around us. Luckily, Wild Rose Country has no shortage of incredible destinations.
Located an hour from Red Deer, the Albertan village of Big Valley is among those worth visiting thanks to its collection of shops, museums, restaurants, and historic buildings like the CNR railway station – built in 1912.

In addition, adventure-seekers can check out Jimmy Jock, a “western-flavoured” boardwalk with a fudge shop, a custom cowboy hat boutique, a tea room, and a gallery.
Here, you’ll feel as though you’ve travelled back in time – but you don’t have to flash forward immediately after your visit!
If you’ve still got time after, you can also see what’s left of the Roundhouse, the jailhouse (which is in great shape despite being built in 1914), and Memorial Park.
It may be small, but Big Valley is a mighty fun spot for a date, weekend outing or staycation!
Want to check it out? Wear comfortable shoes and don’t forget to wear sunscreen!
You’ve got a long (but exciting) day ahead of you.
