All aboard! It’s time to go on an adventure and lucky for you, we have one that’s perfect for those looking for a thrill. Explore Northern Ontario’s beauty on this scenic one-day Agawa Canyon Tour Train through forests and into a large canyon, this fall. Here’s what to know.

Your adventure starts in downtown Sault Ste. Marie, at its train depot on 87 Huron St. The trip takes you on an almost 200-kilometre excursion, guiding you through the natural landscapes that make our province so stunning.

You’ll find yourself going past mixed forests of the Canadian Shield, northern lakes and rivers, and, according to its official site, “set eyes on the same rugged landscapes and majestic views that inspired the Group of Seven to create some of Canada’s most notable works of art.”

Though it’s a sight for sore eyes in the summer, during the fall season you’ll find yourself captivated by the beauty of the surrounding fall foliage.

And don’t worry, there’s GPS-triggered commentary that’ll explain the story of the region. “You’ll learn about upcoming points of interest as well as some of the rich history of the Ojibway, fur traders, explorers, and entrepreneurs that opened up this vast wilderness,” shares organizers.

“And to enhance the scenery outside your window, locomotive-mounted cameras provide an engineer’s ‘eye-view’ via flat screen monitors installed throughout the coaches.”

Before you think it’s all you’ll see, think again! The train descends into the Agawa Canyon as it hugs the top of the canyon wall, going down 500 feet over the next 10 miles to the canyon floor.

According to Tourism Sault Ste. Marie, you’ll have a 90-minute stop where you can take in the sights and explore Agawa Canyon Park.

You can embark on a 30-minute roundtrip lookout hike for panoramic views and walk to see Bridal Veil Falls, too. And it’s even better in the fall.

Once the 90 minutes are up, the conductor will whistle and signal all to board the train to return to Sault Ste. Marie by 5:30 PM.

If this sounds like something you’d love to experience, the adventure begins August 3rd starting at $140 per adult until September 15th. After that, the experience is priced at $155 per person, from September 16th to October 15th. You can purchase your tickets here.

This is a great way to enjoy the change of season.
