A beloved street fest returns to Calgary this weekend & it’s got a ‘pet pageant’ to boot

If you need something to look forward to this weekend, then we might just have the answer! Get ready, because the family-friendly Marda Loop Marda Gras is set to return on Sunday. This fest is, by one name or another, actually the longest-running street fest in Calgary.

And, it’s back after a hiatus last year due to the pandemic. Since 1985 (woah), Marda Gras has hosted members of the community and beyond for a day of local deals, live music and street performances, and all with a Mardi Gras theme. You can expect all that and more this year, but for one day only!

In fact, we’re particularly excited about the ‘Marda Gras Pet Photo Booth’. Attendees are encouraged to dress their pets up just as much as they are, then show them off by entering them in a Virtual Pet Pageant. We’re expecting to see a lot of dogs and maybe a couple of cats, but we really want to see a lizard in Mardi Gras gear. We’re not sure why.

Best of all, this event is free to attend! Grab some friends, dress up, and go have what is sure to be a very interesting day down in Marda Loop this weekend!

MARDA LOOP MARDA GRAS

When: Sunday, August 8th, 2021
Where: 33rd Avenue SW between 19th and 22nd Street
Time: 10 am – 5 pm
Cost: FREE
