Mark your calendars, we now have a date! Sunny’s Chinese has announced it’ll welcome guests to its newest location later this month.

What once started as a pop-up resto has now blossomed into a full-fledged brick-n-mortar location in Kensington Market. On August 18, Sunny’s Chinese will open its doors for the first time.

“I am incredibly excited about opening Sunny’s around the block from where my grandfather’s poultry shop once stood on Baldwin Street,” said Co-Owner and Executive Chef, David Schwartz.

“Kensington Market is a community unlike any other in the city and I can’t imagine a better place for us to be opening.”

The fun cousin to Toronto’s MIMI Chinese has taken the city by storm and found success through its take-out business thanks to its rotating, bi-weekly menu.

Guests can expect a space that’s casual and playful as they enjoy a delightful menu developed by Schwartz and Culinary Partner, Chef Braden Chong.

Along with its menu comes an extensive natural wine list. They will also have a wide selection of Baijiu in stock. It’s a rare find in Canada.

According to the Sunny’s team, to tie the experience altogether, they wanted to make sure the restaurant had a connection to what Kensington Market is known for aka art.

“Justine Wong of Patterns and Portraits, who designed all of Sunny’s menus during their pop-up days, was commissioned to paint the mirrors in the bathrooms,” said the team.

They will also show a rotating display of art from Canadian artists every four months on these bathroom mirrors. Then each piece will be auctioned off to raise proceeds for the Fort York Food Bank and a charity of the artists’ choice.

Sunny’s Chinese is located at 60 Kensington Ave., and reservations open August 5.
