After a year of metal-to-metal action, the $500 million BMO Centre expansion in Calgary is starting to resemble what will soon be Western Canada’s largest convention centre. If you lack imagination, however, the Calgary Municipal Land Corporation has released brand new renderings of the building and an update on their progress.

“We’re thrilled to see this big, important new landmark take shape,” said Kate Thompson, President and CEO of CMLC in a press release.

“This is an extremely complex project, and we’ve worked tirelessly alongside our partners at the Calgary Stampede to deliver a world-class facility that’s right for Calgary, while carefully balancing the coordination of hundreds of events that take place on Stampede Park every year.”

According to the release, the new and improved BMO will offer an astonishing 1 million square feet of space, transforming the way people gather together for events, conferences and meetings in Calgary.

Designed by an award-winning team of architects from Stantec, Populous and S2 Architecture, the expansion (seen above) appears modern, unique and above all – impressive.

“The sheer scale of the building and its dramatic addition will be clear to guests the minute they set foot onto Stampede Park,” says Joel Cowley, Chief Executive Officer of the Calgary Stampede.

“The expanded BMO Centre will showcase both the bright future of the Stampede as well as the welcoming western hospitality that sets the Stampede apart from other convention venues.”

Can’t wait to see it with your own eyes? The CMLC confirmed that they are on track to open in June of 2024 – just in time for the Stampede, so get ready, Calgary.
