Often referred to as America’s hat, the Great White North is a country of many stereotypes – and, though we may exhibit odd behaviour from time to time, we wouldn’t trade our passport for anything in the world. Yes, it’s true that we have some strange hobbies and sure, we often refer to a catalogue of unique slang, but we also have some beautiful cities and some pretty cool celebrity alumni that many would be surprised to hear are Canadian. This got us thinking, how many of our lesser-known quirks do non-Canadians know about?
Much like Canada-based Reddit user hakunamatata004, we were curious about what non-Canucks ponder when they see our maple flag or hear our name – the only difference is one of us had the guts to ask.
In a now-viral thread, those who live in other countries were asked what they think when they hear the word “Canada” – and the answers surprised us.
Though many used this as an opportunity to take a cheap shot at our freezing weather and bagged milk (which only some of us use, by the way) others shared experiences, fictional characters, wholesome beliefs, and foods that reminded them of us.
If we’re being honest, some answers gave us the warm fuzzies – so we wanted to share them with you.
