Let it snow! Alberta's December forecast is out and here's what you need to know

Alberta’s winters are known for keeping us on our toes, and December can bring everything from mild days to full-blown snowstorms.
The Old Farmers’ Almanac has released its December 2026 long-range forecast for Alberta, and with the holidays approaching, there’s one question on everyone’s mind: will Alberta see a white Christmas? The Almanac’s latest predictions offer a glimpse at what December could have in store, including when snow is expected to make an appearance across the province.
Here’s a look at Alberta’s December 2026 forecast.
A look at Alberta’s December forecast
According to the Old Farmers’ Almanac, Dec. 1 to 6 could bring a temperature roller coaster to Alberta, with flurries expected before conditions turn milder.
From Dec. 7 to 15, the Almanac is predicting a stretch of sunny weather followed by flurries, with mild temperatures throughout the period.
From Dec. 16 to 20, Alberta could see a few days of sunshine before snowfall returns. Temperatures are expected to warm up at the start of the period before dropping.
The final stretch of the month could bring more snow to Alberta, with occasional flurries expected before heavier snowfall moves in from Dec. 21 to 31. So if you’ve been hoping for a white Christmas, there’s a chance that parts of the province could see some snow.
The Almanac also forecasts an average December temperature of 8°C in the province, and total precipitation is expected to reach 10 millimetres, which is 5 millimetres below the monthly average. So while the forecast is calling for snow at several points during the month, the precipitation outlook is lower than usual.
Of course, long-range forecasts are not set in stone, and conditions can change significantly as December approaches. If you haven’t already, now is a great time to get those winter tires on and prepare for whatever Alberta’s weather throws at you next month.
