Northwest Fearfest: Everything about Edmonton's horror movie fest

Northwest Fearfest is an annual film festival in Edmonton where horror movies and genre films take the spotlight, and next month, it’s bringing a whole new lineup of frightening pictures to the city.

This October, Edmonton is getting five days of the year’s hottest genre films, retro favourites, restorations, and shorts you’ll want to check out on the big screen. For those who are fans of the horror genre, this festival is definitely one you won’t want to miss, especially when it’s prime time for all the spooks and scares.

What to expect at Northwest Fearfest

This film festival will be taking over Metro Cinema from Oct. 14 to 18. During this time, there will be several movies showcased.

Some of the new films include:

The Last Temptation of Bucky
- Directed by Jenn Wexler and featuring Neil Patrick Harris, the sneak peek of the film tells us, “The titular Becky goes undercover in Poland to infiltrate a family running an inn at The Wolf’s Lair, one of Hitler’s WWII bunkers. When she learns Wilhelm Reuss plans to spark the Fourth Reich, Becky knows she’s got to step up. “
Unholy Night
- “A family’s Christmas Eve dinner becomes a nightmare as Gino must protect his loved ones from his reanimated grandmother, who crashes the celebration with murderous intent,” reads the synopsis.
God Skin
- “To save his dying mother, a desperate delivery rider must survive a brutal underground arena where experimental tattoos grant extraordinary power,” is the description of this exciting Street Fighter-style sci-fi action thriller.

How do I get tickets?

There are three types of tickets available for purchase: all-access passes, four-packs, and individual tickets.

All-access passes are available now for $129 plus fees and taxes. This pass will get you access to all the festival’s films, including any opening night and closing night screenings or special events and classes.

Four-pack passes (which give you four tickets to films of your choice) and individual tickets have not been put on sale yet. Prices have not been released either. According to the ticketing website, select individual tickets will be available on Wednesday, Sept. 23 for purchase.
