Calgary locals know Commonwealth Bar & Stage as one of the city’s best venues. With an elevated stage, professional lights, and both upstairs and downstairs levels, it’s one of the top places in town to catch a live show.

Commonwealth is now gearing up to unveil a new era, with extensive stage, bathroom and lighting renovations that will launch the venue boldly into the future, anchored by a 14-year legacy.

The venue has experienced a top-to-bottom refresh, just in time to mark its 14th anniversary. The investment comes from Blueprint, one of Western Canada’s largest and most influential entertainment, lifestyle, and events organizations. You might know them as the folks responsible for both Chasing Summer and Badlands Music Festival.

The renovations include a full rebrand, with logo, visuals and a new slogan: Music. Culture. Community. There will also be massive stage upgrades and the official launch of Common Underground, the venue’s lower level.

But the updates aren’t just for aesthetics; they’re an investment in Calgary’s thriving arts and cultural landscape, and a commitment to the future of music in our city.

Renovation highlights

Along with a full rebrand, Commonwealth is unveiling a new LED lighting design by Urban Visuals, an expanded stage with updated green rooms, total bathroom renovations, and a bigger and better upstairs dance floor with more room to move.

“There’s real momentum in Calgary right now,” said Alvaro Prol, founder of Blueprint, in a press release. “There’s real buzz, growth, and energy, which is everything we want to be part of.”

Blueprint is the owner and operator of two of Vancouver’s cultural institutions — Celebrities and Fortune Sound Club. Blueprint has provided Vancouver with cutting-edge events for almost 30 years, and they already have their hands in some of Western Canada’s biggest music festivals, like FVDED in the Park, Chasing Summer, Foundation and Contact.

The changes are more than just a few renovations — they represent a long-term investment in the city of Calgary and our arts ecosystem.

“This isn’t a one-off,” continued Prol. “We’re here to build a lasting cultural footprint and become a true part of the city’s nightlife and entertainment communities. The people of Calgary are incredible, the City is welcoming, and we’re grateful for the support. The vibe of the city is like nowhere else in Canada.”

With Commonwealth’s relaunch, Badlands’ explosive growth, and new Alberta-based projects on the horizon, Blueprint is investing in Calgary like never before. This is the right time and place for Blueprint to support the growth of the live music and entertainment industries in our city.

The new era of Commonwealth has arrived. Don’t miss it!
