Hangar Skate, the beloved winter experience at the former Downsview Airport lands, is coming back his holiday season with free skating, a massive interactive public art installation, and the inaugural YZD Holiday Market.
Starting Dec. 20, 2024, YZD will transform into a winter wonderland, running until Family Day weekend. This year, organizers are bringing new and thrilling performances to the main stage, along with an incredible lighting ceremony.
What can I expect to see at Hangar Skate?
On Dec. 20, enjoy its first-ever lighting ceremony for the opening of the skating rink, followed by new fire and ice performers, DJ Skate nights, and art workshops.
They’re also bringing an LED wall art installation that comes to life when you press on different areas. It’s originally from Ottawa’s Winterlude and serves as a wonderful backdrop for all activities.
The first-ever YZD Holiday Market will also run from Dec. 20 to 22, 2024, showcasing local handcrafted goods, artisanal foods and local gifts.
“This holiday season, we’re especially excited about our inaugural YZD Holiday Market, which showcases local vendors and highlights the spirit of community that defines YZD,” Alana Mercury, Director, Programming and Placemaking at Northcrest Developments.
“We’ve designed this winter programming with local partners to reflect the diversity and vibrancy of our city, and we hope everyone will join us in making these festivities a true celebration of togetherness and support for our local creators.”

Skating & DJ Nights
Enjoy free Holiday skating until Jan. 5, 2025 from 12 PM to 5 PM daily, on its 4,500 square foot refrigerated rink, surrounded by vibrant art installations.
No skates? No problem! There will be affordable skate rentals for just $5 for adults, and free for children under 12.
Dance, or shall I say skate, under the lights and to curated music every Friday evening from Jan. 10, 2025 to Feb. 13, 2025 with its beloved DJ nights. Along with that, take part in free lessons on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, those nights will return starting Jan. 10, 2025 to Feb. 17, 2025.
Hangar Skate is a free event that you don’t want to miss out on! It is important to note that rink times must be booked in advance to ensure you’re able to hit the ice.
