Canada's second-largest hot spring is in a lush BC forest with a boardwalk
One of the best cold-weather experiences out there is sitting in one of British Columbia’s famed hot springs, soaking up the healing mineral waters and taking in the stunning scenery. The good news is, one of the largest in Canada is in BC, and it’s open year-round!
The only catch is that you’ll have to make the trek across the province to northern BC to get there. But with its lush forested surroundings and year-round amenities, it’s well worth the trip.
Situated in a provincial park of the same name, Liard River Hot Springs is the second-largest hot spring in the country. Park visitors journey to a forested boardwalk leading them through the region known as the “Tropical Valley,” where they’ll reach the rejuvenating hot springs.
On the journey, they’ll also pass a boreal forest and a warm water swamp.
Here, the Alpha pool ranges in temperature between 42°C to 52°C. So you’re guaranteed a toasty time no matter when you visit!
Amenities include a changing house and composting toilet, according to BC Parks.
As well, visitors can spot numerous fish swimming in the pools alongside the boardwalk.
Note that visitors are urged to remain on the boardwalk to protect the area’s diverse and sensitive wildlife.
