This 600-year-old Alberta limber pine is the most photographed tree in Canada
From lakes and valleys to big cities and rivers, Canada is an incredible country with so much to do and see. One of the most impressive? The Burmis Tree—a beloved Alberta landmark located 6 minutes from the community of Bellevue.
Described as a “testament to the enduring and resilient nature of the people of Crowsnest Pass,” this particular limber pine is estimated to be the longest-living tree in the province and still stands tall, despite having been dead for 50 years.
“Vehicles stop in their tracks to pull over to unload passengers (and their cameras) for coveted travel photo ops,” explains Go Crowsnest.
“The Tim Burton-esque trunk and sprawling branches of the Burmis Tree are a sight to be seen and pondered.”

Though it stopped absorbing nutrients decades ago, the 600-year-old Burmis Tree continues to be the subject of many paintings and even a few poems over the years thanks to the provincial government and locals keeping it upright.
In fact, the Burmis Tree might be the most photographed tree in the country, according to Discover Crowsnest Heritage.
