Time sure flies when you’re in the middle of a global crisis! It feels like just yesterday we were witnessing the first winter snow, and now we’re looking forward to patio season. (Crossing our fingers there is a patio season in Toronto this year, but we’re going to focus on the positive today). The City of Toronto just announced that the first installations of CaféTO curb lanes will begin as early as next weekend!

That’s right, on May 8th you can peak out your windows to find Toronto transforming into what’ll hopefully be a hopping place for restaurants in the summer. Although restaurants are still barred from hosting guests (indoors or outdoors) during the ongoing stay-at-home order, with these new installations they should be ready just in time for when the city plans to reopen.

At the time we’re writing this, there are 720 curb lane cafés and 71 public parking locations being reviewed for the first round of installations. There are still applications coming in daily. Plus, last year the city saw 801 restaurants participate in CaféTO curb lanes. So it’s likely that the first-round number will go up..

In the meantime, we’ll be continuing to follow strict COVID-19 guidelines in hopes that our efforts now will ensure it’s safe enough to enjoy these extended patios when the time finally comes. Don’t know about you, but we can’t wait!
