No, your eyes aren’t deceiving you. A massive yellow rubber duck will be floating on the shores of Toronto’s waterfront this weekend to celebrate a beloved annual festival.

On September 16 and 17, the World’s largest rubber duck will make an exciting return during Toronto’s Waterfront Festival after six years.

Standing six stories tall and carrying a weight of 30,000 pounds, the large rubber duck has been a fan favourite ever since it popped up in the city back in 2017.

More than 750,000 people attended the three-day celebration at that time which brought an estimated $7.6 million in economic impact for the city.

Everyone wanted to see the duck and we don’t blame them. As a matter of fact, according to the festival, 75% of visitors said the Duck was their main reason for attending.

“The number one program we continually get asked to bring back is by far the World’s Largest Rubber Duck. After 6 years, we are very excited to have Mama Duck back to Toronto’s Waterfront to celebrate the last weekend of summer,” said Nancy Gavin, Chair of the Toronto Waterfront Festival.

As for the festival,  if you haven’t already noticed, it also changed its name. Previously known as the Redpath Waterfront Festival, the now-named Toronto Waterfront Festival will not see Redpath Sugar as the title sponsor of the event but will still continue its involvement.

“The Toronto Waterfront Festival has been, and continues to be, a wonderful avenue for us to support tourism, talent, and business, as well as engage with our community and bring people together,” said Judy Yu, Manager of Brand Development for Redpath Sugar.

After snapping a big with the big duck, check out the rest of the programming at the festival.

DJ Mel Boogie will handle the Redpath Sugar DJ Booth, enjoy local food truck eats in the Billy Bishop Airport Picnic Lounge, and play interactive games and crafts from Live Green Toronto.

And last but definitely not least, pay Lucky the Duck a visit – Mama Duck’s 10ft baby.
