With summer quickly approaching we’ll bet that some of you are planning a workout or two in your future. Or maybe you’ve been working out at home all pandemic but are ready to get out of the house. Whatever the case may be, here are 12 of the best places for an outdoor workout in Seattle.

Howe Street Stairs

There’s nothing quite like the burn you get from doing a stair set or 13. Yep, the Howe Street Stairs are made up of 13 interrupted stair sets which come to about 388 steps. This definitely isn’t for the faint of heart but is a great place for fitness lovers of all levels to enjoy. Psst, it also happens to be the longest staircase in Seattle.

Blaine Street Stairs

Now while we’re on the topic of stairs we can’t leave out the Blaine Street Stairs. This set is the calmer and more picturesque cousin of the Howe Street Stairs. At 293 steps you get a similar workout but you also get to enjoy the beautiful Streissguth Gardens that the stairs run through.

Interlaken Park

If you’re simply looking for a new place to walk, run, or bike, Interlaken is a great place to check out. There’s a beautiful park that leads down to the road and most of the road is closed to car traffic. Plus the forested tree canopy and the winding road will have you forgetting that you’re in the middle of Seattle.

Volunteer Park

You know us, we can’t get enough of this Capitol Hill gem. It’s an amazing place to walk, run laps or even bring your friends for a workout on the grass. Not to mention, the water tower within the park boasts 106 steps that are perfect for a good stair burn.

Centennial Park

This spot is great for more than just scenic walks. Because Centennial Park has a collection of pull-up and parallel bars that just so happen to overlook Elliott Bay. If you ask us, that’s a lot better than the gym.

Powell Barnett Park

If you happen to have kids or younger siblings, Powell Barnett Park is a great spot to feed two birds with one scone. The park has a super cool playground and a bunch of exercise equipment, including things like strength training and an elliptical. Plus it’s centrally located.

Hing Hay Park

If you happen to live near the Central District, Hing Hay Park has a collection of exercise equipment along the yellow wall lining the park. So you can go for a walk, get a quick workout in and then pick your groceries up at Uwajimaya. It’s truly the perfect location.

Georgetown Playfield

Georgetown Playfield is really almost like an outdoor gym. The playfield has a fenced-off area full of exercise equipment. Some of the equipment you can find include a rowing machine and a stationary bike.

Discovery Park

We always have to talk about this park because it’s truly one of the best that our city has to offer. If you’re looking for a spot to hike, walk, run, bike, and more, Discovery Park is a great option. You’ll have 534 acres of land to explore that range from beaches, forests to sand dunes.

Lower Woodland Park

Now if you’re looking for some hills to walk or run, the Lower Woodland Park hills will definitely give you a challenge. Plus you can do some cool-down or warm-up exercises in the fields below. And of course, you can extend your workout by heading over to Green Lake afterward.

Bitter Lake Reservoir Open Space

This park may be simple but it has a great fitness zone area. You can use a free runner station, flex trainer station, leg lift station, and sit-up bench station. So if you happen to live in North Seattle be sure to check this one out.

East Galer Street

We’ll cap the list with another of the cities best hills. East Galer Street is so hilly that it’s actually part of the Seattle Marathon route. So pretend you’re in a marathon and get one of the best burns of your life. Can’t hurt right?
