9 ways Calgarians can show their support for Ukraine this weekend

While it’s worth acknowledging that Alberta has a significant Ukrainian-Canadian population, you don’t have to know someone with family or friends overseas to feel for the millions fighting like hell for their lives right now. This weekend, if you’re willing and able, several businesses around the city will be accepting donations and holding fundraising events in solidarity with Ukraine. Here are just 9 ways you can show your support for the people of Ukraine in Calgary this weekend.

VILLAGE ICE CREAM

Whether you get one scoop or two, this Sunday, Calgary’s Village Ice Cream will donate 100% of the proceeds, from all locations to the Canada-Ukraine Foundation. They will also be collecting cash donations from those who wish to contribute beyond their cone.

CABIN BREWING

This weekend, between March 4th and March 6th, Cabin Brewing in Calgary will be donating $1 from every 4-pack of their Super Saturation NEPA sold, as well as $1 from every flight, glass or pint sold to Red Cross’s humanitarian efforts in Ukraine.

When: From now until Sunday, March 6th

YYC FOOD TRUCKS

This weekend, Sunday, March 6th check out the Grey Eagle Casino, where the YYC Food Trucks will be holding a charity event in support of the Humanitarian Crisis in Ukraine. Serving specials between 12 pm and 6 pm, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Canadian Red Cross which has promised to continue matching donations up to $10 million.

EUROPEAN DELI AND PRODUCE MARKET

This Sunday, March 5th, Calgary’s European Deli and Produce Market have promised to donate 50% of the profits from everything sold to the Ukrainainian relief fund. They have also begun displaying a QR code that will send customers to the Canada-Ukrainian Foundation’s website at their cash register – in case you would like to make an additional donation.

BLUE MOON BOUTIQUE

Located in Willow Park, Calgary’s Blue Moon clothing boutique will donate 50% of its profits on Saturday, March 5th to the Red Cross’s Ukrainian Relief fund.

When: Saturday, March 5 and Monday, March 7

ROSSO COFFEE

Today, tomorrow and every day, until they discontinue the product, Rosso Coffee Roasters in Calgary will be donating 100% of profits made from sales of their Santa Lucia whole beans both in-store and online.

IMMACULATE CONCEPT TATTOO

Whether you want a new tattoo, or need work done on an existing one – 100% of the profits made on Saturday, March 5 at Calgary’s Immaculate concept will go towards buying supplies for those hiding and in need in Ukraine. Any time left after bookings will be used for walk-ins.

Time: 11 am – 6 pm

UKRAINIAN YOUTH CENTRE 

From clothes and sleeping bags to blankets, sleeping bags and hygiene products, Calgary’s Ukrainian Youth Centre will be accepting donations between 1 pm and 4 pm on Saturday, March 5th.

Time: 1 pm – 4 pm

STAND WITH UKRAINE RALLY 

Lastly, if you’d prefer to use your voice instead, The Ukrainian Canadian Congress will be hosting a peaceful rally in support of those overseas this Sunday, March 6th in front of the Calgary Municipal Building
