8 Canadian celebs who made jaws drop at the Met Gala last night (PHOTOS)

The biggest night in fashion took place in New York City on Monday night and the looks did not disappoint. Guests of the Met Gala are hand-picked by Anna Wintour herself, and it seems that a few Canadian A-listers made the cut. This year, though, our famous friends from the north didn’t get to represent their home country on the carpet — this year’s theme was all about showcasing American style.

The Met Gala is known for the memorable, breathtaking, and sometimes bizarre outfits worn by celebrities on the red carpet. While some Canadian stars played it safe in simple suits and gowns, others made more bold and artistic choices with powerful messages woven into their design.

Here are 8 Canadian celebrities slaying the carpet at the 2021 Met Gala.

Ontario’s very own Justin Bieber and his supermodel wife Hailey Bieber attended the event. Justin wore the designs of his own brand, Drew House, and Hailey opted for a stunning YSL gown.

Shawn Mendes made hearts race in a black Michael Kors leather blazer and dice necklace over bare skin. He posed next to his girlfriend Camila Cabello, who wore a sparkly purple skirt and crop top. The two were spotted recently spending quality time with their dog in Toronto.

Of anyone who attended the Met Gala, it was Dan Levy who really made a statement with his outfit choice. The custom LOEWE ensemble features two works by LGBTQ activist David Wojnarowicz, who imagined what a “gay superhero” might wear. The look “asserts visibility for queer people,” and celebrates inclusivity, according to the designer, who also made a donation to an AIDS awareness organization.

Mississauga-raised supermodel Winnie Harlow stunned in an Iris Van Herpen bodysuit with a translucent flowing train.

Elliot Page made an appearance at the event and took a moment to pose with Josh O’Connor, who was just in Toronto this past weekend for TIFF.

Vancouver musician Grimes, known for her eccentric fashion, wore an eye-catching gown complete with a sword and a face mask resembling a medieval knight.

NBA player from Toronto Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was among the elite athletes in attendance, and he opted for a light-coloured suit by Tom Ford with a turtleneck underneath.

Last but not least, Simu Liu made his Met Gala debut in a Fendi suit, with a single lock of hair charmingly out of place. Shang-chi has come a long way since his stock model days.
