5 wonderful ways to celebrate Earth Day in Vancouver this month

Let’s be real, sustainability is not just an Earth Day thing. It’s an everyday thing.

In honour of Earth Day on April 22nd, we’ve put together a list of Vancouver events happening this month that promote living a more sustainable, environmentally-conscious lifestyle.

Check out this roundup of parties, cleanups, workshops, and marches you can participate in to support our beautiful planet.

Party for the Planet

Every year, Surrey BC Events puts on the largest Earth Day event in the Lower Mainland. Come by for this year’s installment of Party for the Planet, a sustainable marketplace where visitors can support local vendors and artists and attend environmental workshops. Don’t forget to load up on tasty vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free eats! We’ll be munching on some chickpea fries, for sure.

When: Saturday, April 30th from 11 AM to 7 PM
Where: Surrey Civic Plaza
Cost: Free!

Sea Smart Earth Day Kits Beach Cleanup

Love Vancouver’s beaches? Love meeting new people? So do we. Help keep our coastline and ocean clean by coming down to Kits Beach for Sea Smart’s beach cleanup. Co-hosted by NADA and Surfrider, the event will begin promptly at 10 am on Saturday, April 23rd, and last until around 1:30 pm—that is, if you don’t keep the party going with all the friends you make while you clean up! The seals and seagulls will thank you.

The event is BYOCTS (bring your own closed-toed shoes), but they’ll have disposable gloves, buckets, and garbage pickers ready to go.

When: Saturday, April 23rd
Where: 208 Arbutus Street

March with Protect the Planet at City Hall

If you want to advocate for our planet in a non-violent, peaceful way with like-minded people, consider joining us on Friday at Vancouver City Hall for Protect the Planet’s International Declaration for Action. While the event slogan, “three years left for humanity” sounds pretty bleak, it’s really a call to action for policymakers to prioritize the global reduction of carbon emissions.

The event is in collaboration with Save Old Growth and Extinction Rebellion Vancouver.

When: Friday, April 22nd
Where: Vancouver City Hall

There’s truly no better way to connect with nature than to go on a hike in springtime when everything is coming to life. We’re fortunate enough in B.C. to have some of the best hiking options out there—often the hardest part of the hike is choosing which one to do!
Use our guide to get movin’ this Earth Day and experience some of the best views in and around Vancouver.

Run for Mother Nature in a virtual Earth Day race

This Friday, lace up your running shoes and take part in an Earth Day virtual run hosted by Race Roster! The deets are super flexible—you can run a 5k, 10k, or half marathon anywhere that is accessible to you. Pro tip: start at UBC and run in the direction of downtown if you want to avoid going uphill as much as possible.

For every registration, Race Roster will plant a tree on your behalf through One Tree Planted.

When: Friday, April 22nd
Where: Anywhere

Happy #EarthDay2022, Vancouver! Let’s keep our city green and thriving.
