It’s that time again, Calgary, Canada’s 100 Best have released this year’s list of the country’s favourite bars! We’re happy to announce that yet again, in 2020, a few of YYC’s cocktail hotspots have secured a spot in the top 50!
Now, it’s certainly no surprise that we’ve got some amazing restaurants, speakeasies, bars, and lounges, but it’s nice to be recognized from an unbiased party, ya know?
Calgary’s nightlife, in our humble opinion, is Alberta’s best, and here’s the Proof.
PROOF
Proof, which was named #5 on Canada’s Best 50, is a whimsical spot, with limited space and a smokey atmosphere. Their menu is inspired by classic literature, which gives it a sense of theatricality, and their drinks are carefully curated, and hella strong – just like their concept! Proof knows exactly what and who they are, and that’s evident in their decor, item list, and their staff.

HAWTHORNE
At #37 on their list is Hawthorne, a classy new era dining room and bar in Calgary’s Palliser hotel. This place has found a way to make what’s old new again with their vintage decor and modern menu. They like to keep things fresh, which is why their item catalogue changes with the seasons! This means you can go several times a year, and still experience it like its the very first time, and we love that. Clearly we’re not the only ones.

UNTITLED CHAMPAGNE LOUNGE
Untitled Champagne Lounge is just as snazzy as their high brow name. Rounding out the list at #50, this ambient AF bar claims to be the “embodiment of sophistication, charm, and style,” and honestly, it’s hard to disagree. Untitled’s champagne-based cocktails make, what some consider to be a stuffy drink reserved only for debutantes and New Years’ Eve fun again and their decor is like something out of a dream. When’s the last time you just had a glass of bubbly casually after work?
