We’ve said it before and we won’t shy away from saying it yet again- food halls are one of the best things to happen to the city’s foodscape. And the Food Hall at The District at Beltline took the whole trend up several notches. With a selection of gourmet cuisines and the joys of eating out together, The District Food Hall is a living dream of every food fanatic.

As it happens, The District just upped its game for the sunny season by adding three brand new restaurants (and one brewery!) to its impressive chef-driven lineup. And we’ve got the deets on them all.

Kama

After what seems like a long, long wait, the much-awaited Mediterranean restaurant by local Chef Kenny Kaechele is finally open. And it is every bit as delightful and unique as you’d expect. From authentic recipes to reimagined classics to exotic flavours and bold twists, the menu is nothing short of the chef’s creative expression. The menu is divided into 5 sections- 1 mezze and tapas, small plates, plant-forward, all things grilled, braised & roasted and sweets. Meaning, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Popcorn Octopus, Mojo Verde, Mushroom and Taleggio Orzo and Flatiron Steak au Poivre are must-trys. And don’t even get us started on the drink. The chef has extended the same culinary creativity to the libations as he did to the food.

Interestingly, it isn’t just the food that embraces the Mediterranean theme, the overall vibe of the resto is a modern-day ode to the rich culture. From the modern-rustic décor to the warm and welcoming ambience to that of the exceptional and kind service, the place is a tiny little Mediterranean oasis.

The District witnessed yet another anticipated opening- CENTRAL Taps + Food. Just ICYMI, CENTRAL is a new concept by CRAFT Beer Market with all the greatness of the OG brand plus an intimate, neighbourhood bar vibe. The menu is crafted by the much-loved Food Network fame, Chef Mike Pigot. Of course, the menu follows the CRAFT standards of fresh, local and delicious. Whether it is a mid-morning snack, a main meal, a late-night grub or anything in between, CENTRAL has got you covered. And because it is a CRAFT offering, the drinks here are straight-up “crushable” (as described by owner PJ L’Heureux). Expect lip-smacking cocktails and quality local beers and wines.
With their 75-seat patio, insane menu, amaze drinks and killer vibe, CENTRAL seems to be our (and every fun Calgarian’s) new go-to spring-summer hangout spot.

33 Acres

Under the same market shed, with CENTRAL, you’ll find another familiar name: 33 Acres Brewing Co. This beloved Vancouver brewery, known for its delicious beers, stunning interior, and creative names, will be working alongside CENTRAL to bring you their best lineup this summer. You can either grab one of their brews while enjoying your eats on CENTRAL’s patio, or simply stop by the brewery for a refreshing sip.

Fire & Flora

Vegan and veggie-lovers, The District clearly has your back in more ways than one. And Fire and Flora is one of those ways. An offering by Chef Adam Ryan, the restaurant celebrates all things plant-based and all things Canadian. Chef Ryan promises to highlight the best ingredients The Great White North has to offer and he does so in quite an imaginative way with delicacies that can make the most ardent of meat-lovers fall in love with veggies. The drinks too follow the same local and plant-forward theme. So, you’ll find Canadian spirit spruced up with vegetable-forward flavours.
You’ll see the pro-earth and pro-Canadian theme reflected in the décor as well. The colour palette highlights the natural earthy tones found in the Albertan landscape. And the recurring motif is inspired by the long spines of the lion’s mane mushroom which is grown by Red Fox Fungi located outside of Calgary.

With longer days, more walks & hikes and a bigger appetite, having a bunch of exquisite dining options is more than we could ask for. So Calgarians, what are you waiting for to (re)discover the District at Beltline?
