Hello, music lovers! We might be in the middle of April, but already we’re thinking about all the amazing concerts coming to Vancouver in May. From huge names to cult favourites, across a wide variety of genres, there’s an option for just about everyone on the horizon! Don’t believe us? Keep reading for some proof.

Here are some of the best concerts coming to Vancouver this May.

Action Bronson and Earl Sweatshirt

Arguably the rowdiest concert of the month also happens on the first day! We’ll admit this isn’t a mashup we really expected to see, but we’re nonetheless super excited to witness it play out.

When: Sunday, May 1st
Where: 760 Pacific Boulevard
Cost: $49.50

The Flaming Lips

Originally planned for last August, this iconic rock band touches down in Vancouver next month! The good news? They’ve added a second show, and you can still get regular-priced tickets for it.

When: Monday, May 2nd and Tuesday, May 3rd
Where: 868 Granville Street
Cost: $65+

Shakey Graves

A little blues/indie/country mashup? You better believe. Shakey Graves may have made his bones with ‘Roll the Bones’ years ago, but he’s been producing some very nice, very easy listening music, ever since as well.

When: Monday, May 2nd
Where: 601 Smithe Street
Cost: $30+

Billy Talent

Relive the best part of the Vans Warped Tour! If you didn’t listen to at least a few Billy Talent songs during an angsty teen phase, then you didn’t grow up in Canada. It’s that simple.

When: Friday, May 6th
Where: 2901 E Hastings Street
Cost: $60.50+

Sigur Ros

A little Icelandic post-rock? Why the heck not! Less ‘get pumped for summer’ and more ‘settle into warmer weather, and one of the best date night experiences on this list.

When: Monday, May 9th
Where: 601 Smithe Street
Cost: $105.50+

Future Islands

We’ll just say it- if you’re a fan of indie rock, next month is a great month for you. Future Islands are swinging by Vancouver for two nights of back-to-back shows, which are already sold out but luckily are not insanely expensive for resale tickets.

When: Thursday, May 12th and Friday, May 13th
Where: 868 Granville Street
Cost: $94+

bbno$

Spooky concert time! Just kidding- this local artist has risen to international fame for his irreverent approach to the hip hop/rap genre, and Fortune Sound Club is the perfect place to enjoy it. He’s got an all-ages show on Thursday, before the more adult-oriented version Friday.

When: Thursday, May 12th and Friday, May 13th
Where: 147 E Pender Street
Cost: $28+

Kaytranada

Of course, there’s another option for the spooky day… and it’s another Canadian artist. We won’t lie- Kaytranada is definitely one of our favourite EDM producers not just within Canada, but around the world. We still bump his Soundcloud mixes from way back every once in a while

When: Friday, May 13th
Where: 2901 E Hastings Street
Cost: Sold out, check verified resale sites for tickets

Saba

If you’re into indie rap (yes, it’s a thing), mark your calendars for Sunday, May 15th—Saba is a must-see live! He’s known for his amazing onstage energy, great rapport with the crowd, and feel-good vibes.

When: May 15th
Where: 918 Granville Street, Vogue Theatre
Cost: $25+

meWithoutYou

If indie-rock and spoken-word had a child, that child would be meWithoutYou. The band’s music is usually a mix of spoken-word vocals and free-ranging drums, guitar, and bass. Poetry slam but make it a concert!

When: Wednesday, May 18th
Where: 254 East Hastings Street, Rickshaw Theatre
Cost: $46.76

Corb Lund

As much a storyteller as he is a performing artist, Corb Lund is a rural Albertan from the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. An indie-rock cowboy if there ever was one!

When: Wednesday, May 18th and Thursday, May 19th
Where: 1882 Adanac Street, WISE Hall
Cost: $53.35

Rezz

EDM fans gather here! Isabelle Rezazadeh, known by her stage name Rezz, is a Canadian DJ and record producer from Niagara Falls, and she’s ready to knock your socks off! Probably best to wear closed-toed shoes for this one.

When: Friday, May 20th
Where: 2901 East Hastings Street, PNE Forum
Cost: $48.50 – $78.50

Bob Moses

Speaking of great EDM options, this one is a double-header! Not only is Bob Moses a major name in the house genre, but they’ll be playing outdoors at the Malkin Bowl to boot! Pretty fantastic, especially if ol’ Mr. Sun decides to hang out as well.

When: Saturday, May 21st
Where: 610 Pipeline Road, Stanley Park
Cost: $101+

Avril Lavigne, grandson, and Mod Sun

Yes, the princess of pop-punk herself is performing at Doug Mitchell at UBC in her first Canadian tour in over ten years! The “Bite Me Canada 2022” tour is aptly named, and will also feature fellow pop-punk rockers grandson and Mod Sun—her newly minted fiance! What an iconic trio.

Where: Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre, UBC
Cost: $119.51+

Vance Joy

Let’s throw it all the way back to 2013 with the good ole’ Riptide days! Australian singer and songwriter Vance Joy is no doubt an incredible performer and indie-pop sensation. Make sure to snag those tickets before they’re gone!

When: Friday, May 27th
Where: Rogers Arena
Cost: $62+

Ricky Montgomery

Can you believe it’s Ricky Montgomery’s first time in Vancouver?? We can’t! You may know him from his rise to fame on Vine and Tik Tok, but he’s consistently released hits since 2014. Anyone who can go from playing middle school clarinet to becoming an indie/alternative artist has earned our respect.

When: Saturday, May 28th
Where: 147 E Pender Street, Fortune Sound Club
Cost: Sold out, check verified resale sites for tickets

Grab your tickets and get ready for some amazing performances, Vancouver! We’ll see you all there.
