Finally! The month we’ve all been waiting for is here, ghouls! After weeks of anticipation, October is in full swing – and we want you to make the most of it. Now, while we love those more wholesome events and activities like pumpkin picking and Halloween decoration shopping, it’s really the spookier, darker side of the holiday that we love most – and because we know we’re not alone, today we’re sharing the 13 best-haunted houses and attractions in Alberta that will scare you silly. Check them out and have a terrifying time, friends!

CREEPY HOLLOW – FRIGHT NIGHTS

Creepy Hollow is one of the most unique, most underrated spots on this entire list, period. Unlike anything else that you’ll see in the province, this haunted experience acts as a campsite, haunted house hybrid with creepy touches throughout the entire park. Explore spooky houses, participate in movie nights and play games with other guests during your stay! It’s essentially a Halloween-themed summer camp for adults. Don’t want to sleep over? Check out their Fright Night events every Thursday – Saturday until November 7th.

It’s back, Alberta! This October hit Screamfest 2021 in Calgary for an entire evening of spooks, frights, freaks and fun! First-person to cover their eyes in one of their many haunted houses buys the drinks afterward. Good luck, folks!

DARK: FORT EDMONTON PARK

This month, hit up Fort Edmonton and check out their 3 super creepy attractions – ‘Under the Big Top’, a midway-like destination where guests will feel like they’ve taken a decidedly wrong turn., ‘Core Industries’, or – our favourite ‘Blood Harvest’, a farmland haunted house that will give you a those “Children Of the Corn’ brand heebie-jeebies.

TUNNEL OF TERROR 

Back by popular demand! This year, don’t miss the Tunnel of Terror, a haunted house/carwash hybrid that will raise hairs, scare the unsuspecting and have you out the other side in an incredibly cream vehicle. What other haunted house can say that they did that?

The super-popular Deadmonton Haunted House has returned, with not one but two super scary experiences. Their main attraction, Warped, offers a twisted look at Area 51, while Dusk, outdoor experience takes you through a New Orleans-style cemetery. Spooky!

FRIGHT NIGHT – GALAXY LAND 

What’s scarier than the Mindbender coaster? The Mindbender coaster in dim lighting. This October check out Fright Night at Galaxy Land. During this spooky event, they’ll have louder music, haunted houses, darker lights, thrilling illusions and of course – rides. Check it out!

THE HAUNTED HIKE 

Up for a bit of a drive? Open on weekends only, the Haunted Hike – a terrifying horror house that has taken over a giant warehouse just outside of Edmonton since 2012. Since then, they’ve practically perfected the art of scaring the crap out of Albertans through the art of suspense, special effects and gore – you know, just wholesome stuff. Check it out.

FIELD OF SCREAMS

Ushering in a season of ‘spine-tingling’ fun, Cobb’s has teamed up with the folks behind Screamfest to totally transform their 20 acres of land from family-friendly to fantastically freaky. Calgary’s Field of Screams is back, folks and from macabre-clad actors to gory decor, Albertans who are looking to get into the spirit of things are encouraged to check out their 6 haunted houses, activities and petting zoo every weekend this month.

HAUNTED CALGARY 

This October, for the second year in a row, check out Haunted Calgary – a terrifying-(ly safe) event held at the Horizon Mall in Balzac. This time around, walk through an ominous parking garage and jump shiver and scream at what may lie in the dark – you never know what might be lurking around the corner!

BANFF GHOST TOURS

We’ve waited 11 months for it to be October again, so we intend to make the most of it! This month, in celebration of ghouls, ghosts and the fall season, wince, cringe, mix and mingle and visit Banff’s most “active” sights on an exciting tour in and around everyone’s favourite town.
