Welcome to Thursday, Vancouver! We hope that you’ve had a good week so far and that you’re ready for a weekend of fun options at home and around your neighbourhood. Sure, the weather might not be super nice, but we could use a break anyway after this past week of heat.

Here are 10 things to do this weekend in Vancouver.

Stream a Movie

National Canadian Film Day might be over, but you can still celebrate it thanks to The Cinematheque! This local theatre is streaming two different programs- a feature-length film called Heater and two short films. We like the sounds of Heater, which has been described as a ‘wintry Waiting for Godot“. Samuel Beckett fans, what’s good!?

When: On throughout the weekend
Where: Online

Head to the Farmers Market

This is the last weekend that the Riley Park Farmers Market is open for the season! While summer markets are just around the corner, we think that the rainy forecast makes it a perfect opportunity to grab some fresh food and spend the day cooking at home!

When: Saturday, April 24th
Where: 50 E 30th Ave & Ontario St
Cost: Free

Indulge in a Poutine Festival

In complete contrast to a trip to the farmers market, there’s also a poutine festival starting in Van this weekend. Spots around the city have come up with tons of different creations, from slight twists on the classics to completely new ideas. On a rainy day, it’s hard to beat comfort food, and this is about as comfy as things get.

When: Starts Friday, April 23rd
Where: Locations around Vancouver
Cost: Varies

Shop at a virtual spring market

The Vancouver Etsy Collective is coming together (virtually) this weekend to show off some amazing local wares and creations. They think it’s a great option for Mother’s Day gift shopping, which it is, but we also have no problem picking up a few things for ourselves.

When: Starts Saturday, April 24th
Where: Online
Cost: Free

Capture Photography Festival

Vancouver’s annual public photography festival has returned! Throughout the weekend, you can check out a variety of public art and exhibitions. Personally, we think that the installation at the BC Hydro Substation is worth a walk downtown alone, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg!

When: On throughout the weekend
Where: Locations around Vancouver
Cost: Varies

Verses Festival

There are quite a few festivals to check out this week, we’re realizing. Verses Festival is, you guessed it, all about poetry! They have online events planned all weekend long, from artist talks to spoken word showcases. If you’re looking for an off-the-beaten-path pick, you found it.

When: On throughout the weekend
Where: Online
Cost: Free

Hit the Links

Vancouver is one of the few regions in Canada to offer outdoor golf year-round. What’s more, the sport practically guarantees no interaction with other people if you don’t want to. So, maybe think about hitting one of the city golf courses or a pitch and putt for some exercise.

When: Courses open daily
Where: Around Vancouver
Cost: Varies

Go on a bike ride

We might be psychos, but we think it’s actually pretty fun to bike around in a light drizzle. If you’re properly prepared, then you’ll be treated to a city that is much less busy than usual. And, that means some great, relaxing bike rides.

Experience new public art

The newest public art piece in Vancouver is a multimedia installation that’s part of the Vancouver Art Gallery. It’s hard to sum up, but think of it as a collaborative event to try and map, in a few different ways, the social changes and events that have shaped our city over the years.

When: Now on
Where: 1100 W Georgia Street

Seek out some beautiful cherry blossoms

We hate to say it, but we’re running out of time to see all the cherry blossoms that we’d like to in Vancouver. Now, the issue is picking where to go, but we’ve got you covered with the city’s best areas.
