Every Canadian destination is beautiful in its own way, but we gotta say, Jasper holds a special place in our hearts! It’s not every day that you can wake up with elk and deer just footsteps from your door, or pass by a mountain range that takes your breath away.  

So here are 10 things to do on your next visit to Jasper:

Stay at the Tekarra Lodge

Go for a hike

This may seem obvious, but no Jasper guide would be complete without a recommendation for some kick-ass hikes. Some of our faves are:

Athabasca Falls: See one of the most powerful and spectacular waterfalls in Jasper as well as get great views along the Athabasca River. It’s 1.5km, 0.25 m and should take half an hour to an hour.

Valley of Five Lakes: An easy, enjoyable hike in Jasper that leads to five different stunning alpine lakes. It’s 5.7km, 126 m and should take about 1-2 hours.

Sulphur Skyline: A bit more of a trek but totally worth it for a soak in the natural hot spring pool afterwards. 8.2km, 666m and should take 3-5 hours.

Coco’s Cafe

Known for their artisanal bread, it’s the perfect place to stop for a light or hearty breakfast before your Jasper adventures, or stop in for lunch after!

Spirit Island Boat Cruise

Sail 14 kilometres along Maligne Lake, past towering peaks & glaciers to Spirit Island, one of the most iconic landmarks in Canada’s Rocky Mountains. The off-the-beaten path island has captured worldwide imagination, and the best way to experience it for yourself is with a 1.5 hour boat cruise of course!

Jasper Park Lodge

Jasper SkyTram

The best view in Jasper! The Jasper SkyTram whisks guests to 2,263 metres, which provides easy access to a boardwalk and hiking trails in the alpine zone of the Canadian Rockies.

Experience Athabasca Glacier

Jasper is known for its glaciated terrain, covering over 300 square km perched on the spine of the continent – the Continental Divide. The Athabasca Glacier is an easily accessible stretch of ice flowing from this massive icefield and provides a unique 4 hour opportunity to explore an actively changing glacier. With Experience Athabasca Glacier you get the full experience and even get the chance to descend into the ice using ropes if the conditions allow!

Jasper Planetarium

Explore the world’s largest astronomy park and learn about Aboriginal constellation stories, Northern Lights insights and get tips on how to photograph the Milky Way and aurora.

Sundog Transportation – 1939 Jammer Tour

This unique adventure takes you through hills and valleys under trees and over the lakes of Jasper in a super cool vintage vehicle. In addition to just driving around, guests will also be led on a series of short walks and to a delicious light picnic breakfast, lunch or dinner. This tour takes about 1.5-2 hours.

When: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Walks & Talks Jasper

Tour the Maligne 5 Bridges and see the turquoise water in all its glory! This 3-4 hour hike will provide you with all the sights and sounds you’re looking for, and some mysterious tidbits along the way. And best of all, there’s a massive waterfall to you to oo and awe at and you get a little picnic too!
