Here we are, Edmonton! After weeks of waiting, Halloween is finally upon us, and we couldn’t be happier. Check out a spooky haunted house, watch a scary movie, eat some sweet treats… it’s the perfect non-holiday. Heck, we think it should be a holiday, as a matter of fact.

Here are the best things to do in Edmonton this weekend.

DARK: FORT EDMONTON PARK

This year, Fort Edmonton Park has gone with 3 different concepts, each of which is spooky in its own right. Check out ‘Under the Big Top’ to see Midway attractions (and employees) that have taken a decidedly wrong turn. Or, get a little industrial at ‘Core Industries’, as you try and retrieve a fungus sample that has ‘mutated’ the workers inside. Our top pick, though, is ‘Blood Harvest’, which is set on a farm and has some serious ‘Children of the Corn’ vibes going for it.

When: Until October 31st
Where: 7000 143 Street NW
Cost: $45 for GA

DEADMONTON HAUNTED HOUSE

The super-popular Deadmonton Haunted House has returned, with not one but two super scary experiences. Warped is their main attraction, and offers a twisted look at Area 51, while Dusk is an outdoor experience inspired by a New Orleans cemetery haunt.

When: On throughout the weekend
Where: 7031 Gateway Boulevard
Cost: $29.99+

THE HAUNTED HIKE

Ready for a scare this weekend? Well then, you could head over to the town of Vegreville, Alberta for a truly spooky experience at The Haunted Hike. This much-loved attraction reopened after a 7-year hiatus in 2019, and has returned for our enjoyment this year!

When: On until Sunday, October 31st
Where: 5228 52 Avenue, Vegreville
Cost: $15

HAVE AN EVENING UNDER THE STARS

Did the recent Northern Lights sighting get you thinking about the universe? Yeah, same here. Luckily, Edmonton is under an hour away from Elk Island Park, which is one of the few designated dark sky preserves in Canada. You might not see the lights, but we guarantee you’ll still be in awe!

When: Open throughout the weekend
Where: 1 – 54401 Range Road 203
Cost: $7.90

CHECK OUT A GHOST TOWN

Alberta has got no shortage of spooky ghost towns to check out, and Edmonton is a great launching point! See some abandoned buildings, travel down some backroads, and maybe share a few creepy stories of your own with your friends!

VISIT A HAUNTED PUMPKIN U-PICK FARM

For a truly family-friendly option we’ve got Prairie Gardens! This massive u-pick farm just outside Edmonton offers everything from pumpkin displays to ghost town walks and even a pumpkin cannon. If we get some nice weather this week, this is a great option.

When: Open throughout the weekend
Where: 56311 Lily Lake Road, Bon Accord
Cost: $17+

HAUNTED TROLLEY TOURS

This trolley has a mind of its own!! Enjoy a spooky and historical Trolley ride over the High Level Bridge and throughout Old Strathcona as the sun sets over Edmonton. You’ll get to hear some truly terrifying ghost stories and of course learn all about the unique trolley you’re riding on.

When: On throughout the weekend
Where: 8408 Gateway Blvd NW
Cost: $43.45

CHECK OUT AN IN-PERSON PLAY

The dark comedy Bears is currently playing at the Citadel Theatre! The story follows ‘one man’s perilous quest through the Rockies’, and is a fantastic option for those looking for some live (and spooky) entertainment this weekend.

When: Showtimes until Sunday, October 31st
Where: 9828 101 A Avenue
Cost: $34.65+

OR WATCH A HALLOWEEN MOVIE

More of a spooky movie person? Don’t worry, because the Metro Cinema has you covered. They’ll be playing a variety of Halloween movies this weekend, from family favourites (Hocus Pocus) to brand new horrors (Candyman). Because let’s face it- scary movies are best enjoyed on the big screen.

When: Showtimes throughout the weekend
Where: 8712 109 Street
Cost: $13

Alright folks, that’s our roundup of things to do this weekend in Edmonton! We hope that you have a scary good time out there.
