Sweet Santa Claus! The week we’ve been waiting for is finally here! We’ve got Christmas Eve to look forward to this Friday, and that means we’re going all out on the holiday events and options in the city. After all, we’ve written enough about it, so why not finish the journey?

Here are 10 of the best things to do in Edmonton this week.

LUMINARIA

It’s only right that we kick this list off with one of the best activities for both the holiday season and winter in general. Luminaria will be transforming the already beautiful U of A Botanic Garden, with an insane array of incredible displays, seasonal treats, and more!

CITADEL THEATRE

If you’re looking to enjoy the holidays in a little bit of a classy setting, the Citadel Theatre is putting on the Dickens classic A Christmas Carol. Our advice? Watch the Muppets version one day, then the classic the next!

ESO PRESENTS A TRADITIONAL CHRISTMAS

Speaking of classy Christmas events, the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra is putting on a couple of concerts this week focusing on all the Christmas songs and carols you know and love. We’ll admit, it’s a heckuva lot better than listening to grainy FM radio on your drive to work.

When: Showtimes December 21st and 23rd
Where: 4 Sir Winston Churchill Square Northwest
Cost: Varies

VICTORIA PARK ICEWAY

That’s right, this massive ice skating area has opened for the winter! Do a couple of laps around the oval, then wind through the trees on an illuminated skating trail.

When: Open throughout the week
Where: 12030 River Valley Road NW
Cost: Free

CANDY CANE LANE

One of Edmonton’s most iconic holiday experiences returns this weekend! Candy Cane Lane is a Christmas light extravaganza, featuring a whole bunch of incredible decorations that have been around for over 50 years. The best part? It’s free to check out!

When: Open throughout the week
Where: 148 Street between 99 Avenue to 92 Avenue
Cost: Free

MAGIC OF LIGHTS

The Rad Torque Raceway at the Edmonton International Airport will once again play host to this holiday experience. Stretching across some 2.5km of the track, guests will be able to see over 1 million lights, animations, and a variety of stunning displays during their tour.

When: Open throughout the week
Where: 50342 Range Rd 253, Edmonton International Airport

ZOOMINESCENCE

You’ll get to see the zoo transformed by dazzling light installations, ranging from ‘Aurora Animals’ to a ‘Carnivore Canopy’. With dozens of different installations stretching practically across the entire zoo, the experience is a great way to deal with those early sundown blues we all know and love.

When: On throughout the week
Where: 13315 Buena Vista Road
Cost: $14.95 for GA

ACC ICE WALL

Feeling like this is the week to try a new winter activity? At last, we can experience the thrills of ice climbing, without, you know, having to try and make our way up a frozen waterfall and really freaking out about it. At least, that’s how we approach it.

When: Open throughout the week
Where: 9613 96 Avenue NW
Cost: $19+

That’s our roundup of the best things to do in Edmonton this week, folks! Now, get out there and spread some holiday cheer!
