September is almost here, which means summer is winding down in Calgary and we’re starting to transition into fall, but the city isn’t slowing down. September brings plenty of festivals, markets, outdoor events, live entertainment, and seasonal activities. There are still warm-weather events to squeeze in, while some of the first fall favourites are starting to make their way onto the calendar.
So whether you’re looking to make the most of the last bit of summer or you’re ready for a change of season, here are 10 of the best things to do in and around Calgary this September.
Calgary Pride Week is taking over the city from Aug, 31 to Sept. 6 with a new citywide format for 2026. Instead of everything being centred around one festival site, Pride is spreading across Calgary with themed events, performances, community gatherings, and, of course, the annual parade. The week includes the TD Pride Block Party, Queer Arts Market, All-Ages Celebration, Pride on the Island, and the Calgary Pride Parade, among other events. One of the biggest highlights is the Pride on the Island event at Prince’s Island Park, which will feature a special DJ set from drag queen Trixie Mattel.

A live string quartet will be bringing Taylor Swift’s biggest hits to the Calgary Central Library under the soft glow of candlelight. The 60-minute performance will feature songs including “Love Story.” “Anti-Hero,” “Cruel Summer” and “You Belong With Me,” along with medleys inspired by some of Swift’s biggest albums.

Forget everything you know about Romeo and Juliet because & Juliet is giving Shakespeare’s leading lady a very different ending. Instead of dying over Romeo, Juliet decides she’s had enough and heads off to figure out what comes next on her own terms.
The musical comes from the Emmy-winning writer of Schitt’s Creek and features a soundtrack packed with huge pop hits, including “Since U Been Gone,” “Roar,” and “Can’t Stop the Feeling!” With plenty of comedy, romance and big musical numbers, & Juliet turns the classic tragedy of starting over and deciding what your story looks like next.

Calaway Park is getting a spooky makeover this fall, with Halloween-themed attractions and activities for the whole family. You can explore Hallotown, meet characters in the Enchanted Forest, take photos and catch the Halloweekends Parade on select days. There will also be a Boo Crew Costume Party with games, activities, prizes and karaoke, so you can enjoy the rides while getting into the Halloween spirit.
When: Weekends starting on Saturday, Sept. 5, and running until Monday, Oct. 12, 2026

Fall Days at the Calgary Farmyard is bringing all the classic activities back to the farm from Sept. 11 to Oct. 25, 2026. You can make your way through the 10-acre corn maze, pick out a pumpkin, meet the farm animals and check out more than 20 other attractions. On Friday and Saturday evenings, you can also stick around for Harvest Lights, when thousands of colourful lights illuminate the farm after dark.

Monster Jam is bringing its massive 12,000-pound trucks to Calgary’s GMC Stadium. Expect high-speed races, huge jumps, wild stunts and trucks like Grave Digger and El Toro flying through the dirt track. It’s a chance to see the trucks and drivers go head-to-head in a full-throttle competition.

The Alberta Biodiversity Festival is coming to the Wilder Institute’s Calgary Zoo, giving families a chance to learn more about Alberta’s wildlife and ecosystems through interactive exhibits, discovery stations and hands-on activities. The festival will bring together conservation organizations and community partners, with activities focused on everything from Alberta’s fish and wildlife to the habitats they depend on.

The Calgary International Film Festival is taking over the city this fall with 11 days of movies, bringing more than 200 short and feature-length films from Canada and around the world to Calgary. From documentaries and international films to Canadian stories and late-night picks, there’s a huge range of movies to choose from, making it a great way to discover something you wouldn’t normally find at the theatre.

Night Light Calgary is turning the neighbourhood of Victoria Park into a glowing outdoor art experience. The free festival will feature over 40 light-based artworks, projections, and interactive installations, along with live entertainment playing throughout the space, giving you a chance to explore the area after dark.
