Gravitypope

A local staple in Edmonton, Gravity Pope has everything you need to make your mom the most stylish on the block this spring. Keep things simple with an accessory like a scarf or a fun new tote bag. Alternatively, go all out and buy her some amazing shoes or jewelry for spring. Personally, we like the scarf idea, but you’ve got tons of options.

Workhall Studio

Just down the street from gravitypope lies this amazing local brand, which has a focus on ‘artistry over commercialism’. The result? A wide selection of amazing basics that are both supremely comfy and have a focus on ethical fashion. In fact, Workhall offers lifelong alterations and tailoring on all its pieces, given ‘off the rack’ a whole new meaning here. Our advice is to ‘spring’ for a knit, which is perfect for the chillier spring and fall days.

Shades of Grey Boutique

Is your mom’s style as youthful as your own? Then look no further than Shades of Grey Boutique, which has created a convenient little Mother’s Day shopping guide already. Jewelry, accessories, basics, and more are all on display, and while you might have to know your mom’s style better than most, it’ll pay dividends when you find her that perfect spring piece.

Maven & Grace

This local gem is perfect for Mother’s Day shopping in Edmonton, offering curated vintage goods, apothecary items, homeware, and more. And while the majority of the product is available online, we do recommend checking this shop out (safely) in person, to see what kind of one-off items are kicking around. Nonetheless, you can expect to find that something special both online and in-store.

Shop Chop

This local gift shop has just about every kind of home good, and other stuff for that matter, that you could ask for. If your mom is constantly one-upping you in the interior design department, then a tea towel or a nice ceramic dish from here is sure to be appreciated. We also think that a fun tongue-in-cheek mug would be a great addition, because who doesn’t want a little chuckle while drinking their morning coffee?

Re:Plenish

If your mom is constantly on the lookout for eco-friendly ways to live, then Re:Plenish is right up her alley. You might wonder if new laundry detergent or body care products are really appropriate for Mother’s Day. But, we think that a functional gift is a good gift. We’d definitely suggest buying an array of things though, since a nice home comes not by soap alone.

Other Options

Mayfield Flowers

Of course, this list wouldn’t be complete without at least one mention of the quintessential Mother’s Day present- a bouquet of flowers. We like Mayfield Flowers and consider it a local go-to, plus they’re offering a combo box of flowers and homemade macarons, which is practically unbeatable. But, treat this pick as a reminder to check out the many local flower shops around the city!

Wee Book Inn

In the same wheelhouse, we don’t know many moms who don’t enjoy a good book every now and again. So, a trip to a bookstore for either a childhood favourite of hers or one something off your own wishlist is sure to go over well! Bonus points for buying two copies (if you can) and starting a little bi-weekly book club with here.

Get Cooking

Is your mom past the phase of cooking to feed her children (you) and actually cooking when she wants to? Has she always had the approach? Then a virtual cooking class might just be the gift for her. And while you can try and pick which dish she’d like the most, we think it’s better if you got a gift card, maybe so that she can pick a friend to (virtually) cook with.

Corso 32

Of course, you could also just grab an amazing meal from any number of local restaurants, and prepare Mother’s Day dinner yourself! While there are tons of options to choose from, we’re personally (and selfishly) craving a hearty Italian meal, so we’re going to go after a ‘Corso at Home’ meal kit for the big day. Easy to prepare, delicious, and you’re supporting local all at the same time. It’s foolproof, especially in combination with another gift.
