The first Zoo Doo sale of the year is this week & here’s what to know

Is there a more Seattle thing than the annual sale of the infamous Woodland Park Zoo – Zoo Doo? Probably yes, but, this sale is certainly one of the most unique and is highly coveted by local gardeners as a premier source of garden nutrients. Here’s how you too can get your hands on the good stuff.

As spring happens to be upon us, so does the first Zoo Doo sale: aka Woodland Park Zoo’s compost.

The first day of sale is this week on Friday, March 29th, and you have all Easter weekend long to check it out.

“While it looks and smells the same, this season’s highly coveted compost has a new recipe. For the first time in Zoo Doo’s history of nearly 40 years, more species’ feces has been added to the mix of the animals’ bedding materials (straw, sawdust, etc.),” states the Woodland Park Zoo.

“Instead of the zoo’s herbivores being the exclusive contributors, poop from primates such as gorillas, orangutans and monkeys and carnivores including lions, snow leopards and maned wolves has been added to the mix.

According to the Zoo, the ‘doo’ is a great way to garden clean and healthy, “which is beneficial for pollinators and other local wildlife, and is a sustainable green choice.”

You can book a pick up online, and you will receive instructions on how to get the Doo.

This year’s Zoo Doo takes place over several dates, they are as follows:

Friday, March 29, 11:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
Saturday, March 30, 8:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
Sunday, March 31, 8:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
Friday, April 12, 11:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
Saturday, April 13, 8:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
Sunday, April 14, 8:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.

As for the cost, it starts at $16.50 per 25 gallons, and goes up to $125 for a large truck.
