You can now get fined hundreds of dollars for feeding wildlife in Vancouver

While it’s not exactly the biggest fine you can get, we do think it’s important to mention the new fines for feeding wildlife in Vancouver. The Vancouver Park Board enacted the new fines last night, following a decision made last week. Here’s what to know about them.

According to the Park Board, the new fines for feeding wildlife in Vancouver will apply to both intentional and unintentional situations. So, whether you’re directly feeding a coyote or leaving part of a sandwich on the beach, the rules could still apply to you. And, if that happens, you could be subjected to a fine of $500.

The new fines apply to all wildlife, including raccoons, rodents, coyotes and even birds. However, it should be noted that the fines will only apply in Vancouver’s public parks. If you’ve got a bird feeder in your backyard, you don’t have to take that down.

With any luck, the new fines will help deter people from disrupting the natural habits of wildlife around the city. After all, we don’t want another situation like we had with coyotes this past summer, because that wasn’t fun for anyone.
