This Alberta sanctuary has over 55 wolfdogs and an interactive tour

Canada has some incredible, jaw-dropping, breathtaking destinations—but there’s no place quite like the Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary, in Alberta.

Tucked away just east of Cochrane, the lucky guests who visit will learn about the importance of preserving wild wolves in their natural environment and can get up close and personal with some of Wild Rose Country’s most majestic animals.

Want to visit?

Since opening to the public in 2011, the Sanctuary has raised awareness and educated thousands about wolfdogs and wolves in the wild.

Here, you’ll learn about their unique nature, how to reduce backyard breeding and come to better understand the importance of conservation.

Each experience, however, differs based on your chosen tour.

Yamnuska offers three different adventures, the Intro Tour, the Wolfdog Sanctuary Walk, and the Interactive Tour in which you’ll get to meet several different packs of wolfdogs—but there are a few things of note before heading out.

Be smart, be respectful, and dress appropriately!

From smells, sounds and objects, wolfdogs can be incredibly sensitive and there is a dress code in effect. In addition, guests will be asked to keep their voices down, ask that children not run around, and everyone stay out of restricted areas.

This is one special place, Alberta, so visit, donate (if you’re able) and enjoy.

It’s one of a kind.
