Not bad, eh: Canada was just ranked one of the happiest countries in the world

The ability to look on the bright side is a privilege and according to the newly released World Happiness Report for 2023, this is something Canada does not take for granted.

According to the new study, the Great North has cracked the top 20 along with Denmark, Iceland, Isreal and Switzerland, and is up 2 spots from 2022!

Unfortunately though, for those who can find competition everywhere, Finland is proving to be a tough cookie to crack having ranked first overall for the 6th year in a row – but how did they figure this out?

The report drew from a global survey distributed to 150 countries in which people evaluate their own lives over the last three years – which does include the COVID pandemic this time around and definitely had an effect on everyone’s overall score.

They also considered factors such as a country’s GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom to make life choices, generosity, perceptions of corruption, and dystopia.

With that in mind, Canadians were given an average life evaluation score of 6.961, significantly lower than Finland’s 7.804 – but we’ll take it!

As for the other countries? Here were the top 20 happiest countries in 2023:

  1. Finland
  2. Denmark
  3. Iceland
  4. Israel
  5. Netherlands
  6. Sweden
  7. Norway
  8. Switzerland
  9. Luxembourg
  10. New Zealand
  11. Austria

  14. Ireland
