Here’s where you can watch the partial solar eclipse in Seattle

The Department of Astronomy at the University of Washington is hosting a viewing experience for the upcoming partial solar eclipse in Seattle.

Titled the “UW Astronomy hosting eclipse viewing event for Monday’s partial solar eclipse,” the experience kicks off at 10:30 am on campus.

“Come view the partial solar eclipse in the courtyard of the Physics-Astronomy Building between 10:30 till 12:30 Monday, April 8th,” states the University’s Astronomy Department.

They also say that, “although we will not see a total eclipse from Seattle, the Moon will cover up to 20% of the Sun. Looking at the Sun can damage your eyes, so UW Astronomy and the Seattle Astronomical Society will have telescopes and eclipse glasses available so you can view it safely.”

Over the past week, The Seattle Public Library also had eclipse glasses available for free.

The April 8th event is “a total solar eclipse” that will cross North America, passing over Mexico, the United States, and Canada, according to NASA.

“A total solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the Sun. The sky will darken as if it were dawn or dusk,” it states.

Due to the geographical location, Seattle will be seeing a partial eclipse only.

Be sure to wear the safety glasses, wherever you end up!
