Here’s what’s open and closed in Edmonton on Family Day this year

The long weekend is nearly here and this time around, it’s all about spending quality time with the people you love most! Whether it be relatives, close friends, or your special someone, this upcoming stat is made for memories – which is why it’s important to know what’s going to be open and closed on Family Day Monday in Edmonton this year.

Take note, adventure seekers and errand doers. Here’s what you need to know ahead of February 20th, 2023.

OPEN

MUSEUMS

Museums are a great way to get out and about this Family Day – and great news! Most Alberta-run spots will not only be open but totally FREE to check out this year.

MOVIE THEATRES

Hoping to catch a flick this Family Day? Landmark Cinemas and Cineplex theatres will all be open all weekend long.

MALLS

Though we’d recommend checking their hours before heading out, West Edmonton Mall, Kingsway, Southgate Centre and Edmonton City Centre malls will be open.

EDMONTON VALLEY ZOO

Lions and tigers and bears (oh my!) – the Edmonton Valley Zoo will also be open this Family Day Monday and makes a great family outing, especially for those with kids!

Where: 13315 Buena Vista Road

GROCERY & LIQUOR STORES

Need milk or beer? You’re in luck. Though (again) we’d recommend checking your local stop hours, most liquor and grocery stores will be open on holiday Monday.

TELUS WORLD OF SCIENCE

Science rules! Especially when you get to check out some amazing family-friendly exhibitions and then maybe treat yourself to a movie inside the IMAX, or a little light show in the Zeidler Dome.

Where: 11211 142 St NW, Edmonton

CITY-OWNED RECREATIONAL FACILITIES AND LEISURE CENTRES

Much like Edmonton’s malls, we’d recommend checking the hours of your local leisure centre, but several facilities (like Clareview Community, Commonwealth and Terwillegar) will be open on Monday the 20th.

EDMONTON TRANSIT

While transit will be operational on Monday, February 20th, Trains and buses will run on their Sunday schedule.

CLOSED

PARKING

As per their website, no payment is required for on-street parking in Edmonton on Monday, February 20th, due to the stat holiday.

COSTCO

While grocery and convenience stores will be open this Friday, Costco will be unshoppable this Family Day Monday- Looks like you’ll have to get your massive hot dog fix before February 20th.

But there you have it, friends. Everything that’s open/closed this Family Day in Edmonton. Please be sure to double-check the hours of operation no matter where you’re headed and enjoy the day!
