WestJet named one of the safest low-cost airlines in the world

From food to legroom, we all prioritize our travel must-haves a little differently, but we’d be willing to bet everyone’s number one is probably the same. No matter how high or low maintenance you may be – peanuts and a window seat will always take the aisle when it comes to arriving at your destination alive.

Luckily, Canada’s actually home to one of the best in the biz when it comes to seatbelts and lifevests. According to a new ranking, Calgary-based WestJet is among the top 10 safest low-cost airlines in the world.

Taking everything from COVID protocols and fleet age to incidents and crash records into account, AirlineRatings.com concluded that, while it wasn’t number one, WestJet was definitely one to beat.

According to their list, Air New Zealand was the best in their ‘overall’ category; An impressive feat considering the airline operates successfully despite facing some of the most challenging weather conditions and remote environments on the globe.

Other airlines that made their best overall list were as follows:

  1. Air New Zealand
  2. Etihad Airways
  3. Qatar Airways
  4. Singapore Airlines
  5. TAP Air Portugal
  6. SAS, Qantas
  7. Alaska Airlines
  8. EVA Air
  9. Virgin Australia/Atlantic
  10. Cathay Pacific Airways

Thankfully, because tickets on some of these crafts are astronomical in price, they also shared the safest low-cost airlines, which is where WestJet placed.

  1. Allegiant
  2. Easyjet
  3. Frontier
  4. Jetstar Group
  5. Jetblue
  6. Ryanair
  7. Vietjet
  8. Volaris
  9. Westjet
  10. Wizz.

So there you have it. If you’d like to view the entire list for yourself you can do so here, otherwise, safe travels and happy flying.

Westjet may only have pretzels when you fly domestic, but they’re officially among the safest, and for that, we can be extremely thankful!
