You can watch banned films during this series from SIFF this month

There’s a lot more to watch than just Netflix this January. Between the Sundance Film Festival and SIFF’s BANNED! Film Talks series, you’ll have no shortage of on-screen entertainment. Ready to see some of history’s most provocative films? BANNED! is for you.

The five-part SIFF Film Talks series looks at films throughout time that “were deemed too dangerous by authorities for viewing.” Some of the controversial topics explored and displayed in these films include religion, indecency, and colonial legacy among others.

The films are broken up into five talks and three live screenings at SIFF Film Center. All of the talks are taught by John Trafton and will also be available virtually through live streaming via Zoom.

While the idea of banned film or content may seem like an old notion, it actually does still happen. Because of that, you’ll get to watch an array of films dating from the early 1900s all the way up until 2018. And if you want to watch some of the films in person, the three live screenings include The Battle of Algiers, In The Realm of the Senses, and Rafiki.

When it comes to the talks some of the films discussed include Haxan, All Quiet on the Western Front, I am Curious (Yellow), and The Last Temptation of Christ. If you’re looking to watch something new and learn, this series is for you. Now here’s the deal, it begins tomorrow so snag your tickets.
