Washington ranks among best states in US for work-life balance in new study

Seattle and Washington as a whole have been off to a hot start in the new year. Between Seattle experiencing a rapid rent decline and our propensity to keeping new years resolutions, things are hopefully looking up. Especially now that Washington has ranked among the best states in the US for work-life balance.

Remote conducted an index data analysis to reveal the top US states which excel in life-work balance. Some of their shortlisted critical factors included healthcare, minimum wage, maternity leave, statutory annual leave, sick pay, average hours worked per week, overall happiness levels, and LGBTQ+ inclusivity.

As per their report, the top 10 US cities for work-life balance are as follows:

  1. Hartford, Connecticut
  2. Olympia, Washington
  3. Albany, New York
  4. Sacramento, California
  5. Providence, Rhode Island
  6. Trenton, New Jersey
  7. Salem, Oregon
  8. Montpelier, Vermont
  9. Augusta, Maine
  10. Boston, Massachusetts

Olympia is perhaps not the first Washington city you would expect to see near the top of the list. That being said, Washington state as a whole ranked in second place with an overall score of 62.79.

Our state ranked high for having the largest concentration of STEM talent in the US as well as some of the nation’s most well-known brands like Microsoft, Amazon, and Starbucks.

What’s more, “Washington-based workers are paid a minimum wage of $14.49 — second only to California — while women on maternity leave receive a 90% payment contribution.” It’s also very LGBTQ+- friendly and is one of only seven US states that does not levy a personal income tax.

Way to go!
