Ontario is full of natural wonders that are just waiting to be discovered and explored. If you’re down for an adventure, there’s an Ontario park that is home to a series of caves and a special trail that leads to an exciting lookout. Here’s what to know about Warsaw Caves Conservation Area.

Just a short drive east of Toronto is Warsaw Caves, described as a “unique natural landscape” by Destination Ontario that offers opportunities for all to enjoy the outdoors.

Though you can go kayaking, canoeing, and swimming in the lake, the main attractions are the seven Warsaw Caves. According to Destination Ontario, these limestone rock caverns were formed when a glacier melted at the end of the last Ice Age, about 12,000 years ago.

If you’re eager to explore the caves, make sure to wear sturdy shoes and bring a flashlight with you.

And don’t worry, these caves are beginner friendly. “Each visitor is given a Spelunking Guide upon arrival that will lead you through each cave,” shares Destination Ontario.

“Be sure to keep an ear out for the river while you’re underground. The Indian River actually disappears underground and flows along the limestone layers that surround the caves. As long as you don’t mind some tight spaces and getting a little dirty, exploring the caves could become a weekend-long adventure.”

Besides the caverns, Warsaw Caves Conservation Area has more than 15 km of hiking trails. The trails guide you through limestone plains and forests, with kettles and potholes sightings along the way. But for a stunning view, head to the scenic lookout points that oversee the Indian River Valley.

Fees

Day Use Permit for cars is priced at $19 while walk-in for adults is priced at $10, and $6 for children. The full list of rates can be found here.

The Warsaw Caves Conservation Area is open Sunday to Thursday from 9 AM to 4:30 PM, Friday and Saturday from 9 AM to 9 PM. The regular season runs until October 9, 2023.
