A new 140,000-square-foot Walmart is opening in southwest Edmonton

Southwest Edmonton can expect a massive new Walmart in the next year.

This huge new Walmart location will be situated in Desrochers Village in southwest Edmonton. This is part of a $6.5-billion investment made in 2025 to expand its store and supply chain, which has opened several stores in Ontario already.

So far, six new Supercentres are slated to open over the next two years. That includes this upcoming Edmonton location, as well as a Fort McMurray location. Currently, Walmart Canada is operating 59 stores in Alberta, with 12 of those being in Edmonton.

“We’ve been part of the Edmonton community since 1994 and can’t wait to bring a new Supercentre to the community, helping to make it even more convenient to shop with Walmart,” said Kelly Voisin, director of real estate at Walmart Canada, in a press release. “This new store is part of our $6.5-billion investment announced in 2025 that will bring even more Supercentres and our everyday low prices to customers across the country.”

Opening in 2027, this new Walmart location will span across 140,000 square feet. It’ll feature a full grocery department and deli, as well as Walmart’s full general merchandise assortment, including home, electronics and apparel. Not only that, a pharmacy will take home in this supermarket in addition to all the other amenities.

Although an exact opening date is not known yet, we couldn’t be more excited for 2027.  It’ll be a big day for Edmontonians across the south side, we’re sure.
