Vancouver’s dose of winter sun comes to an end this week and here’s when it will be back

While Ontario battles record-breaking amounts of snow and wind chill, Vancouver is looking pretty hard to beat right now. The winter sun has re-energized the city, and there’s more of it on the way. But for this upcoming week, Vancouverites can expect to have their hopes a little crushed. The rain is officially back in the forecast, but at least it’s not over 50 cm of snow!

A rainy week ahead

Environment Canada forecasts that the week kicks off with a final day of sun on Monday, Jan. 26, 2026, becoming increasingly cloudy as the afternoon progresses. By the evening, we’ll be back to overcast skies and a high of two degrees.

From Tuesday, Jan. 27 to Sunday, Feb. 1, the forecast is full of rain, with temperatures jumping up to eight degrees on Tuesday and hitting double digits on Thursday, Jan. 29.

Toronto’s snowiest day on record

Meanwhile, Torontonians were blanketed in 46 cm of snow as of 6 a.m. on Monday, breaking the 180-year record for the most snow ever recorded at Toronto-Pearson. This number has since climbed to well over 50 cm of snow in the Toronto City Centre, and it’s not like it was all sunshine and rainbows last week, either.

When will the sun be back in Vancouver?

As for when you can expect the seasonal gloom to subside once again, mark your calendars for the first week of February.

According to The Weather Network, the skies will clear on Tuesday, Feb. 3, with steady winter sunshine in the forecast through Feb. 9.

So while it might be a bit of a gloomy week ahead, it’s better than what’s going on out east right now. Count your blessings and soak up the sun while you can!
