Vancouver has been named one of the world’s most sustainable cities

We’ll admit it, it’s hard to not be smug and give ourselves a pat on the back every time Vancouver gets ranked as one of the best in the world at something. So, we’re having the same problem after hearing that the publication Lonely Planet has put us on a list of the world’s most sustainable cities. Plus, we’re the only one in Canada! Here’s why.

Turns out, this is more of a personal opinion ranking than some true quantitative data. But, we will give them kudos for pointing out some of Vancouver’s most eco-friendly moves to their readers. Like how we’ve been planting a bunch of trees, have low emissions per capita, and have committed to a substantial Zero Waste by 2040 plan.

Here’s who we’re joining on the list:

  1. Copenhagen, Denmark
  2. Portland, United States
  3. Singapore
  4. Lisbon, Portugal
  5. Bengaluru, India
  6. Vancouver, Canada
  7. Ljubljana, Slovenia
  8. San Francisco, California

Once again, this is really more like a tour of what progressive cities are doing, from carbon-neutral goals to transportation solutions. If you’re curious about what the rest of the world is getting up to, you can read the list of the world’s most sustainable cities right here.
