The US is set to drop COVID-19 testing requirements for those flying into the country

Good news for those hoping to take a trip down to the States this summer! On Friday, multiple sources confirmed that the US will be dropping COVID-19 testing requirements for those flying into the country. What’s more, the move was confirmed by the White House Assistant Press Secretary. Here’s a quick rundown.

For the past year and a half or so, America has required all international air travellers entering the country to require a negative COVID-19 test prior to boarding their flight. What’s more, this rule has stayed in place as others have changed, including land border crossings and even mask requirements for flights within the country. However, it should be noted that the CDC still recommends people do wear masks in those settings.

Anyway, according to multiple reports, that rule is set to be dropped on Sunday, June 12th. On that day, those flying into the US will no longer have COVID-19 testing requirements. One important thing to note- it is unclear whether these new rules will apply to all travellers, or only those who are fully vaccinated. Either way, for the vast majority of people hoping to take a trip to America, this is welcome news.

As for Canada, we actually officially dropped pre-arrival testing for fully vaccinated travellers way back in April. It’s taken a long, long time but it looks as though travel, at least, is on its way back to a pre-pandemic (mostly) normal.
