2023 Travel predictions: Cheaper international flights & the best days to travel for Canadians

If you look at travel deals periodically but don’t necessarily have a destination in mind, we have some exciting trip ideas to share with you, courtesy of KAYAK’s 2023 Travel Trends forecast.

According to the report, Canadians are looking to book international trips over staycations this year. In fact, international stays are up a whopping 94% in searches compared to last year, while domestic accommodations are up a mere 10% in searches. So clearly, Canadians could use all the travel savings they can get.

In addition to revealing the most searched destinations for travel for 2023, KAYAK has compiled a list of cities across the globe that have seen a significant drop in airfare compared to last year. And while these trends are predictions at the end of the day, numbers don’t lie.

So let’s dive right in – here are some international cities Canadians should have on their radar for 2023:

  • Melbourne, Australia, -10%, ($1,802 vs. $2,005 last year)
  • Vaitape, French Polynesia, -9% ($1,690 vs. $1,863 last year)
  • Copenhagen, Denmark, -8% ($749 vs. $812 last year)
  • Spilt, Croatia, -5% ($1,196 vs. $1,254 last year)

Other key insights from the report? Trips to the Asia-Pacific are on the rise, with Manila, Tokyo, and Bangkok topping the list of top trending international destinations in terms of searches.

KAYAK also predicts that cooler and coastal destinations in Australia, Croatia, and Greece will be among the cheaper flights to book. As for the cheapest days of the week to travel, KAYAK recommends booking your departing flights on a Thursday or Friday, which (on average) have some of the lowest flight prices.

Happy travelling!
