Toronto could be getting a huge new soccer stadium & it even meets FIFA standards

Watch out, BMO Field. Woodbine Entertainment has announced its plans to build a new soccer stadium with room for thousands of spectators and a pitch that meets FIFA’s professional standards.

The new facility is described as a “high-performance training centre and stadium for women’s and men’s soccer in the heart of Toronto’s Rexdale community,” according to Woodbine Entertainment.

The soccer-specific venue would have 8,000 seats and 38,000 square feet of training space.

It would be used to not only for national soccer training, but also to host international federations preparing for major events and serve as a training base for Canadian Premiere League teams.

Plus, it could be a “groundbreaking opportunity” to develop Canada’s women’s soccer teams, starting from the grassroots level to the elite. The stadium and training centre could even become the permanent home for a potential domestic professional women’s soccer league.

With Canada’s men’s soccer team heading to the World Cup for the first time since 1986, and the recent Team Canada women’s soccer gold medal win at the Olympics, this is definitely the time to invest in our players.

Meanwhile, BMO Field is set to undergo an expansion as part of its bid to become one of the venues to host the 2026 World Cup. The plans include expanding seat capacity to 46,000, up from its current capacity of 40,000.

Seems like Canada is on track to have a new national sport!
