Toronto might be getting a bunch of live music on patios this summer

There are two things we love most in the world: patio season and live music. It’s been a hot minute since we’ve been able to enjoy either, so when we heard that the city is working on a pilot program that could potentially bring live music to our favourite patios, we were pretty darn jazzed about it.

The idea was highlighted in a recent Toronto Music Advisory Committee Chair Letter. Toronto City Councillor Brad Bradford outlines the difficulties Toronto’s music sector has faced as a result of the pandemic. To combat these difficulties, Bradford recommends the pilot program the patio live music we’ve all been craving.

“Economic Development and Culture,” the letter reads. “explore the feasibility of designing a pilot program to permit live music and entertainment with limited amplification on prescribed outdoor patios.”

On top of being fabulous for the Toronto music scene AND a pretty darn great summer activity, it’s also a great way to support local. Between the local artists it would help promote and the local restaurants folks would surely flock to as a result, there’s really no downside.

At the moment, all of this is still in the proposal stage. But it certainly does give us a little something to get excited for as we move into warm weather and Ontario’s new reopening plan.

In the meantime, you know the drill: stay safe and stay healthy.
