Toronto will ring in New Year’s Eve with free fireworks along the waterfront

Not sure what to do for New Year’s Eve? Toronto’s fireworks show is returning to the waterfront and it’s sure to be stunning!

The City of Toronto announced that 2024 will kick off with another fireworks event this year – also adding DJs, food trucks and live performances to the list of festivities for a full evening of fun.

Guests can head to Sherbourne Common, Toronto Music Garden, or Habour Square Park to partake in the evening’s events starting at 10 PM on December 31, 2023, with the fireworks show beginning at midnight. Admission for all events is free.

Unlike past years, City Hall and Nathan Phillips Square won’t be putting on a fireworks show but will have holiday lighting displays and skating available to the public until 10 PM on December 31st.

Don’t know a good spot to view the fireworks? The City of Toronto suggests Sugar Beach Park, Little Norway Park, or HTO Park (all along Toronto’s inner harbour) as optimal viewing locations.

If cold temperatures aren’t your thing but you still want to catch the countdown at midnight – the City of Toronto Culture YouTube channel will be live-streaming the event. The live webcast will begin at 10 PM with streamed DJ sets until 11:30 PM. The New Year’s Eve countdown will then start at 11:30 PM.

Some of the live acts guests can expect are Toronto-based artists DJ Sofia Fly and DJ Cozmic Cat with local sensation Tynomi Banks hosting the live webcast. Pop-up participatory dance performances co-produced with The Dance Together Festival will also be happening all evening in select public viewing spots.

“I am excited to celebrate New Year’s Eve for the first time as Mayor of Toronto and reflect on what has been an eventful year for me and Torontonians from all walks of life,” said Mayor Olivia Chow.

“I encourage residents and visitors to enjoy the fireworks display, from the comfort of your home via the live-stream or in-person along our city’s beautiful waterfront. Let us count down to an incredible New Year filled with amazing possibilities for our great city.”

And don’t worry about getting around from spot to spot if you plan on attending in person – the TTC is offering free service all night long, starting at 7 PM on December 31st, 2023 to 8 AM on January 1st, 2024.

If you’re driving into the city, be mindful of the following road closures:

  • Eastbound on Queens Quay W. from 10 PM on December 31st, 2023 to 1 AM on January 1st, 2024
  • Bay St. from Lakeshore Blvd. W. to Queens Quay W. from 10 PM on December 31st, 2023 to 1 AM on January 1st, 2024

Ring in 2024 with some fun and be safe, Toronto!
