Toronto’s Chinatown is transforming into a massive street fest this weekend

After two long years, the Toronto Chinatown Festival is finally coming back. This beloved event transforms the Spadina and Dundas area into a massive celebration of Chinese food, culture, tradition, and art.

This two-day event is known to bring in over 250,000 visitors every year for its exciting variety of entertainment, live performances, and experiences.

This year’s theme of the Chinatown Festival is “The Eight Immortals.” According to the festival’s website, the Eight Immortals “are believed to know the secrets of nature,” based on Chinese mythology.

The Immortals represent “the male, female, the old, the young, the rich, the noble, the poor, and the humble.”

“Visitors may expect an enchanted two-day program filled with cultural performances, traditional street eats, family activities on Huron St., a parade from the 8 Immortals, Dragon and Lion Dance performances and many more,” the description says.

Each of the Eight Immortals has its own role to play during the performance, and you can read a description of each one here.

Prepare to eat your way through the lineup of vendors selling multicultural street food from countries all over Asia.

In between bites, you can catch traditional Kung-Fu and Martial Arts demonstrations, a spectacular opening ceremony featuring a lion dance, and performances by Asian dance groups, bands, and musicians.

There are many cultural festivals to check out around Toronto and the GTA this weekend, including Japan Festival Canada in Mississauga, Afro Carib Fest in Thompson Memorial Park, and Pan American Food and Music Festival in Dundas Square.

It’s the season of outdoor celebrations here in our city, and the festivities are in full swing!
