It’s time to recognize a great employer when you see one. This year’s list of Canada’s Top Small & Medium Employers is out for 2023 and who knows, maybe this new list may inspire you to seek out greener pastures.
The annual list was announced by Mediacorp Canada Inc., organizers of Canada’s Top 100 Employers competition on Tuesday.
In order to compile the list, the editors used the same eight criteria for the competition – Workplace; Work Atmosphere & Social; Health, Financial & Family Benefits; Vacation & Time Off; Employee Communications; Performance Management; Training & Skills Development; and Community Involvement.

According to organizers, in order to determine eligibility, they had to use the SME definition used by Statistics Canada, which limits the competition to private-sector commercial organizations with under 500 employees.
“The employers chosen this year represent the ‘best of the best’ and many have pioneered initiatives that would have been unthinkable five years ago,” said Kristina Leung, managing editor of the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project.
“These trailblazers are among the first in Canada to adopt new HR initiatives, such as offering permanent hybrid work options and removing formal caps on vacation allowance and paid time off. It’s a refreshing way to mark our 10th anniversary of the SME competition.”
Here are just a few out of the many small and medium employers that made this year’s list:
