This oceanside Airbnb in BC’s stunning Haida Gwaii is a perfectly secluded getaway

It’s an open secret that the Haida Gwaii region is as beautiful as it is stunning. The archipelago has some 150 islands and features what may be the most pristine environment of the entire Pacific Northwest. So naturally, an oceanside cottage on the biggest island sounds like the perfect launch point for a trip there. Let’s check it out!

The Chy Tonn (Wave House) cabin is nestled in the Naikoon Provincial Park, which is just outside the town of Massett. As the traditional territory of the Haida Nation, the park features a variety of historic villages and sites alongside the beautiful and rugged terrain. Naturally, it’s the perfect spot for those looking to hike, surf and learn more about Haida history.

Luckily, the Wave House offers a clean and modern home base for your exploration. The 600 sq. ft. off-grid home sits on 2 acres of waterfront land, with both beaches and temperate rainforest to enjoy. There’s space for up to 4 guests and 2 full bedrooms, which actually ensures a little privacy.

There are definitely a couple of semi-rustic touches though, like an outdoor shower (with hot water) or a newly built cedar outhouse. But, we feel like it’s fitting for the trip, and there’s also a wood-burning sauna to relax in after a day of hiking. So yeah, we can get by without a dishwasher for a few days.

Keep in mind that due to the remote nature of Haida Gwaii, there are still travel recommendations in place for would-be visitors (like being fully vaccinated). So, we say check out that first, and then look into booking this incredible oceanside cabin! Have fun out there, folks!
